Frequently Asked Questions
What is Childhood Emotional Neglect (CEN)?
We are experienced in treating the impact of attachment wounds in childhood, also known as Childhood Emotional Neglect (CEN). When left untreated, adverse events in childhood can impact on many parts of adulthood, including relationships, work and life satisfaction, self-confidence, and overall well-being. Untreated CEN can result in a number of psychological conditions such as depression, anxiety, disordered eating, personality vulnerabilities, compulsive and addictive behaviours. CEN can impact on our everyday relationships, causing friction and discomfort. We may be unaware of how our CEN has influenced the way in which we relate to our partners, friends and work colleagues. Our aim at Child & Family Matters is to assist with building self-awareness to repair the wounds acquired in childhood, so that we do not go on to repeat the cycle for future generations (intergenerational trauma).
Starting Treatment
The initial two sessions serve to assess your treatment needs and determine compatibility with the practitioner, with regular appointments. Telehealth appointments are also available, with the practitioner providing a corresponding link for remote sessions.

If you prefer not to have an automatic debit, an invoice will be sent on the appointment day and should be paid within the same day. An EFTPOS machine is also available at the clinic.
Do you offer Medicare rebates?
You can seek psychological assessment and treatment without a referral, but if you want to access rebates consider the following. If eligible, Medicare rebates are currently at $141.85 with a Clinical Psychologist and $96.65 for a Registered Psychologist. There are ten rebates per calendar year.

Sometimes it is necessary to reschedule an appointment. In these instances, we request 24 hours’ notice before cancelling a scheduled appointment to avoid a cancellation fee. If you need to reschedule an appointment on a Monday, please do so by 4 pm on the Friday before your scheduled appointment.
